At Kingsway, our reading curriculum is carefully designed to provide a clear, ambitious and coherent progression of knowledge and skills. Reading is taught through a well-sequenced curriculum that enables children to build on prior learning and develop increasing fluency, accuracy and comprehension over time. The curriculum is deliberately structured so that new learning builds cumulatively on what pupils already know and can do.
We continually assess pupils' understanding and monitor their progress to identify any gaps or misconceptions. This enables us to adapt teaching responsively, revisiting and securing the foundational knowledge and skills pupils need before moving on to new learning. By ensuring that pupils have securely mastered the essential components of reading, we support them in becoming confident, fluent and independent readers.
Our curriculum is closely aligned with Kingsway Infant School, ensuring consistency in curriculum intent, implementation and progression across the primary phase. This shared approach provides a seamless transition between key stages and ensures that pupils continue to build successfully on their prior learning throughout their reading journey.
