  • Reading Fluency

We are incredibly proud of our children's success in our Reading Fluency interventions. Following specialist training through the HFL Reading Fluency Project, our teachers deliver this highly effective, evidence-informed intervention to children who can read words accurately but need additional support to develop reading fluency and deepen their understanding of what they read.

The HFL Reading Fluency Project is designed to help children become confident, expressive readers by improving their accuracy, pace, and use of expression. During sessions, pupils revisit carefully selected texts, practise reading aloud with teacher guidance, and discuss the meaning of what they have read. This repeated, supported reading helps children to read more smoothly and confidently, allowing them to focus less on decoding words and more on understanding the text.

Research has shown that improving reading fluency has a positive impact on reading comprehension, confidence, and enjoyment of reading. As children become more fluent readers, they are better able to access the wider curriculum, engage with increasingly challenging texts, and develop a lifelong love of reading. We are delighted with the progress our pupils have made and are proud of the confidence and enthusiasm they demonstrate as readers.
