Design and Technology (DT) is taught half-termly at Kingsway Junior School with Art being taught for the other half-term.

The children will get the opportunity to complete a topic based on textiles, mechanical systems, structures as well as cooking and nutrition. This ensures all areas of the National Curriculum are being met throughout school from Lower KS2 to Upper KS2.

Structures

To help develop the children understanding of structure they constructed their own moving fairground rides. The key to this was understanding materials and their uses, mechanisms and moving parts, as well as building solid foundations for a creation which was structurally sound.

Textiles

In textiles, the children created a patchwork cushion. The key to being successful involved being able to thread and tie a needle, understanding the running stitch and using this with precision and control.
