  • Music

We are a musical school with a strong passion for providing high-quality opportunities that inspire pupils and foster a lifelong love of music. Weekly music lessons are delivered by our passionate specialist teacher.

Our pupils are given regular opportunities to make music using a range of instruments in class. These include the glockenspiel (recently purchased), the ukulele, and a class set of djembe drums funded through a grant from EdufundUK. These resources ensure that children can learn music in a practical, hands-on way. In addition, a music specialist teaches trumpet to all Year 4 pupils, giving children the opportunity to develop instrumental skills and experience playing a brass instrument.

We are also using the Hertfordshire Music Service Music Development Plan to further strengthen and develop our music provision across the school. Our music curriculum is carefully planned to align with the National Curriculum, ensuring progression, depth, and breadth in pupils’ musical learning. To explore what your child will be learning, please see our music curriculum overview, which outlines the units covered across the academic year.

    Singing and Performance

All children take part in a weekly Key Stage singing assembly, where they learn songs linked to themes, seasons, and important festivals. Key Stage 2 pupils also develop their skills further by learning to sing in harmony. At the end of the autumn term, Key Stage 2 pupils invite parents to a Christmas production, showcasing the songs they have been learning.

    Enrichment and Opportunities

We provide a wide range of enriching musical experiences throughout the year. Visiting musicians regularly lead inspiring assemblies, and we host termly musical events, including our much-loved “Kingsway’s Got Talent”.

We also have a school choir, which rehearses weekly after school on Wednesdays. The choir performs at a variety of events throughout the year, including Young Voices and local Christmas carolling events.
