When children arrive at Kingsway Juniors, we assess their phonics knowledge to identify whether they require additional support to develop automaticity in reading and spelling. Children who need extra support receive targeted phonics interventions three times a week using the Little Wandle Rapid Catch-up programme. As the Little Wandle phonics programme is also used at Kingsway Infants, pupils are already familiar with its routines, resources and teaching approaches. This continuity supports accelerated learning and enables children to make more rapid progress in developing their reading and spelling skills.
