Welcome to Computing at Kingsway Junior School. We follow the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) curriculum to develop digitally literate pupils who are prepared for the future. Our aim is to equip every child with the essential digital skills and computational thinking they need to thrive in an increasingly technological world.

Our Computing Curriculum

Our computing curriculum is built around three key strands from the NCCE framework:

Computing Systems and Networks – Pupils learn how computers and networks function, understanding the technology that powers our digital world.

Creating Media – Children develop skills in creating digital content, from graphics and animation to video and sound, learning to express themselves creatively through technology.

Programming – Pupils learn to write code and develop computational thinking skills, solving problems through logical reasoning and algorithm design.

Data and Information – Children learn how to collect, organise and present data, developing skills in handling information effectively.

Our Resources and Tools

At Kingsway Junior School, pupils have access to iPads and Chromebooks to support their learning. We use Purple Mash to deliver engaging computing lessons and Google Classroom to enhance collaboration and communication. These tools help our pupils develop confidence and competence in using technology safely, respectfully and effectively.

Throughout their time at Kingsway Junior School, pupils build progressively on their knowledge and skills. Our computing curriculum not only teaches technical skills but also encourages creativity, problem-solving and collaboration.

Beyond the Classroom

Computing learning extends beyond lesson time at Kingsway Junior School. Our popular Coding Club is a firm favourite with pupils, giving them the opportunity to explore programming in greater depth and work on exciting projects with their peers.

Online Safety

Ensuring our pupils can navigate the digital world safely is at the heart of our computing curriculum. Online safety is woven throughout our teaching, helping children understand how to protect themselves and others online, preparing them to be responsible digital citizens both now and in the future.
