Diversity in the Curriculum

At Kingsway, we continue to strive for every child to see themselves reflected in our curriculum. With this in mind, last year we carried out a diversity led book audit, resulting in the purchase of many new and lovely books which are now in our book corners and your homes being enjoyed! Please do let us know what you think of our selection of books- if you would like to see something different or have a specific book request, get in touch!

Last year we also audited our curriculum with a focus on diversity. Following the findings of our audit, this year we have made changes to many subjects to ensure that every child is able to see themselves in our lessons every day. Here is a selection of of some of the new learning that our children have experienced:

  • Reading and writing biographies of influential women, including Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock, Mary Anning, Marie Curie, Diane Abbott, Mae Jemison and many more.
  • Learning about the following books and authors in English lessons:
  • Poetry of Maya Angelou
  • India, Incredible India by Jasbinder Bilan
  • Proudest blue: Jabari Jumps: Fly, Eagle, Fly
  • Greta and the Giants; Malala's Magic Pencil

  • The Girl Who Stole an Elephant (by Nizrana Farook)
