Music

Kingsway Junior School Music

We are a musical school and are very passionate about providing high quality opportunities for our pupils to be inspired and develop a love of music. Alongside our music teacher’s expertise, we use Charanga to support our music teaching. This is an online music scheme with lots of visual aids and interactive resources to support our pupils’ learning about music. We provide pupils opportunities to play instruments in lessons; our children are enjoying learning the glockenspiel (recently purchased), the ukulele and we have just received a grant from edufunduk for the purchase of a class set of djembe drums. This enables our pupils to take part practically in classroom music lessons. Take a look at our music curriculum overview to find out what units our pupils will be covering in music this year.

All children also take part in a Key Stage singing assembly once a week where they learn songs related to the theme, season or important festivals. Key Stage Two have been learning to sing in harmony! At the end of the Autumn term, Key Stage 2 invite parents to join us for our Christmas production to share the songs we have been learning.

To support our music teaching we provide many engaging opportunities for our pupils e.g. musicians invited to school assemblies. We also put on termly musical productions, including Kingsway’s Got Talent. We have a choir that rehearses weekly after school on Wednesday and they perform in many events throughout the year including: 02 arena choir and Christmas carolling.
